At a chefs’ urban farm, a new concert series for digging in and getting down

The name Paradigm Gardens has been making more appearances on New Orleans restaurant menus. It should soon be on more event calendars too, thanks to a new concert series at this verdant urban patch that begins this week.
Developed last year in a quiet corner of Central City, Paradigm Gardens is one of a growing circuit of nearby urban farms. This one has especially close ties to local restaurants, serving as an arms-reach supplier for its partner chefs Kristin Essig of Meauxbar, Mike Stoltzfus of Coquette and Aaron Burgau of Patois. Farmers Joel Hitchcock-Tilton and Jimmy Seely cultivate Paradigm Gardens’ one-block plot, growing vegetables, keeping bees and raising goats and quail, and the chef use its yield across their menus.
The one-block garden plot was also designed as an events space, with a rustic outdoor kitchen with wood-burning oven and a small stage.
The concert series begins Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 6:30-10 p.m., with the Mike Dillon Band performing, food from Meauxbar, Coquette and Patois, beer from the nearby Courtyard Brewery and other drinks. Tickets for this first event are $45, which includes food and drink and parking across the street.
The series continues every other Tuesday through Dec. 1, with a changing mix of bands and participating restaurants, including some guest chefs from High Hat Café, Domenica and Restaurant August down the line.
