The atmosphere of an outdoor garden event is unparalleled, where the sights, sounds, and scents of nature come together to create a peaceful, welcoming environment suited for all occasions, big or small. The natural surroundings bring an added layer of serenity that can’t be replicated elsewhere, setting the perfect tone for any and all celebrations. In this post, we will walk you through what makes outdoor garden events so special and why they should be at the top of your list when planning your next special event!
The natural beauty and magical ambiance of garden spaces
There’s something about being surrounded by nature that instantly puts one at ease, and outdoor garden events capitalize on that calming effect. From the moment your guests step onto the grounds, they’re enveloped in a serene atmosphere where vibrant flowers, rich greenery, and unique plants come together to create a stunning visual experience. The fresh air and natural sounds—whether it’s the gentle rustling of leaves or birds chirping—add to the peacefulness of the environment. Nature’s beauty serves as the backdrop, leaving little need for excessive decoration. The colors, textures, and fragrances of the garden provide a sensory experience that’s truly one-of-a-kind.
This tranquility plays an important role in the overall success of an event. It promotes relaxation, encourages social interaction, and creates an environment where people can unwind and simply enjoy each other's company. Whether you're hosting a casual garden party or a more formal celebration, the outdoor setting amplifies the experience, making it more intimate and even more enjoyable for everyone involved.
Custom event design
When it comes to designing an event, flexibility is key, and garden venues offer just that. The natural landscape becomes the perfect canvas for creating a personalized event that reflects your style and vision. Unlike traditional indoor venues, garden settings allow for a vast range of creative possibilities when it comes to event design. With ample space, the venue can be customized to fit any theme you desire—be it rustic, vintage, or botanical. The natural features of the garden, such as trees, flowers, and shrubs, can be enhanced or complemented with personalized decorations, making the space feel uniquely yours.
One of the greatest benefits of hosting an outdoor garden event is the ability to easily adapt the venue to your needs. You can add personal touches through creative lighting, beautiful floral arrangements, elegant table settings, and even tents to provide additional shelter. Whether you're envisioning a boho-chic celebration or a more formal, luxurious gathering, the garden’s versatility allows you to transform the space to suit your event’s needs. This flexibility ensures that your event will feel like a true reflection of you and your vision.
Perfect photos for the gram
For any event, capturing special moments is essential, and outdoor garden events provide the perfect backdrop for unforgettable photo ops. The natural beauty of the garden creates a stunning setting for photography, offering a variety of backdrops that change with the seasons. From lush greenery to vibrant flowers, every corner of the garden presents a new opportunity for a picture-perfect moment. As the sun sets, the golden hour light casts a soft, magical glow across the space, creating ethereal images that are hard to replicate elsewhere.
Whether it’s a wedding, corporate event, or private party, garden settings offer endless photo opportunities for guests to enjoy. Photographers love working in these natural environments because of the different textures, lighting, and colors available, allowing them to capture moments in a beautiful, artistic way. The garden's natural ambiance helps bring out the best in photos, turning ordinary moments into cherished memories. Every picture taken in the garden feels unique, creating lasting memories for both the hosts and their guests.
Reconnect with nature
In today’s fast-paced world, many of us find ourselves disconnected from the natural world. Hosting an outdoor garden event gives guests the chance to reconnect with nature in a way that’s both rejuvenating, enriching and refreshing. The fresh air, natural surroundings, and open sky help bring a sense of calm and relaxation, boosting well-being and lowering stress levels. Greenery, in particular, has been shown to enhance feelings of calm and happiness, creating a more pleasant and stress-free atmosphere for all.
Spending time in nature can have a grounding effect, making outdoor garden events the perfect choice for those looking to create a tranquil, meaningful experience. The positive effects of nature can also enhance the overall event experience, making it more enjoyable and memorable for everyone involved. Whether you’re looking to unwind, socialize, or simply enjoy the beauty of the world that we live in, the fresh air and connection to nature elevates any event to a whole new level.
Versatility: perfect for any occassion
One of the many appealing aspects of outdoor garden events is their versatility. Garden venues can accommodate a wide variety of event types, each with its own distinct atmosphere. Whether you’re hosting a grand wedding, an intimate family gathering, or a corporate event, the garden setting can be tailored to fit your specific needs and match your vision. The beauty of a garden is that it offers a flexible space that can adapt to different event sizes and themes, ensuring a unique and personalized experience.
For more casual gatherings, gardens provide an ideal backdrop for relaxed BBQs, picnics, or baby showers, while larger events, like weddings or cocktail receptions, can be elevated with elegant decor and lighting. Whether your event calls for a laid-back celebration or an upscale affair, the garden offers ample opportunities to create the ambiance you desire. This versatility ensures that no two events feel the same, making each garden gathering an unforgettable experience for all involved.

New Orleans Outdoor Venue Logistics
When is the best time to host an outdoor wedding in New Orleans?
When choosing the best time for an outdoor wedding in New Orleans, you'll want to consider the weather, landscape, and potential peak seasons. March to May and September to November are generally the most favorable months, with mild temperatures and minimal rain. For more tips on timing, check out our detailed guide on the ideal wedding seasons in New Orleans.
What happens in the case of bad weather?
One of the top questions when booking outdoor venues in New Orleans is, “What if it rains?” Unfortunately, the weather can be unpredictable, so it's essential to plan ahead. Most venues provide contingency options like tents. These can range in size and style, with clear or white tops, giving you the outdoor feel while keeping everyone dry. Tents without sides let you enjoy the landscape, even if you’re sheltered from the rain.
While tents work great, there’s no foolproof plan for a hurricane. To reduce the risk, consider avoiding the peak hurricane season. Some venues offer backup indoor spaces, so if you're worried about weather or don’t want a tent, it might be best to find a venue that offers both options.
Do outdoor venues have parking and restroom facilities?
All venues know that access to restrooms is a must, but what that actually looks like depends on the venue. Some places have full restroom facilities, while others may use portable restrooms or smaller buildings. As for parking, it often depends on the venue's location. For instance, venues in the French Quarter might not have parking, but places a bit further out—like our Garden Space—offer both street parking and a nearby lot.
Will there be a dance floor?
Yes! Most outdoor venues can set up a dance floor, whether it's permanent or rented for the occasion. Some venues have paved areas that can double as a dance floor, while others may provide a wooden dance floor. Either way, there will definitely be plenty of space for you and your guests to dance the night away!
How will I be able to host my ceremony and reception in the same outdoor space?
Depending on the size of the venue and the number of guests that are attending, there could be separate spaces designated for the ceremony as well as the reception. The more common occurrence however is a quick change of sorts during cocktail hour. The space is originally set up for the ceremony, and after the ceremony while the bridal party is taking pictures and guests are mingling and enjoying cocktail hour, the space is magically transformed into the ultimate party space! Trust the experts—your venue’s staff will make the change seamless while you and your guests enjoy the festivities!
Guest Experience at an Outdoor Venue
How can I ensure my guests are comfortable?
Keeping your guests comfortable at an outdoor wedding requires a little planning. Let them know it's an outdoor venue so they can dress accordingly—especially if there’s grass involved, where flats or wedges might be a better choice than high heels. Many outdoor venues have shaded areas where guests can cool off, and if you're hosting during cooler months, you can add heaters to warm things up.
Will there be enough seating to accommodate all of my guests?
When you choose the right venue, there is no question as to whether or not they are able to accommodate all of your guests! When searching for venues, have a rough estimate of the number of guests you plan on attending so you are able to focus on venues that can accommodate all guests.
Are there any measures to control insects like flies and mosquitos?
Bugs are a reality at outdoor weddings, but there are ways to minimize them. At Paradigm, we use tiki torches to repel mosquitoes, fly traps to keep flies at bay, and small reflective devices to deter bugs from the food. We also provide bug spray for guests who want a little extra protection! Here is an example of a reflective devise used to repel bugs. (This is not an affiliate link, just the one that we like to use).
Are there any security concerns? What measures will be taken to ensure all guests feel safe?
Outdoor venues sometimes have more security concerns than indoor ones, mainly because there aren’t four walls separating the party from the outside world. To keep your event secure, venues often have fences, privacy screens, or other barriers. Security personnel can also be stationed at the entrance to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Food, Decor & Entertainment
What kind of catering works best for outdoor events?
Whether you're having a table service, buffet, or family-style meal, the catering options at outdoor venues are the same as indoor ones. The bonus? Some outdoor venues offer the unique charm of an outdoor kitchen! At Paradigm, we cook with a wood-fired oven, adding a delicious smoky flavor to the food—and a bit of entertainment while we’re at it!
How do I decorate an outdoor event space for my wedding?
One of the best parts of choosing an outdoor venue is that nature does much of the decorating for you! The stunning landscapes of New Orleans—lush greenery, vibrant flowers, or historic buildings—provide a beautiful backdrop. You can enhance the natural beauty with lighting, floral arrangements, and unique table settings, creating an eco-friendly and gorgeous celebration.
Can I have live music at an outdoor venue in New Orleans?
Absolutely! New Orleans is famous for its music, and many outdoor venues are perfect for live performances. Be sure to check with your venue about any noise restrictions, curfews, or permits required for live entertainment.
Planning a wedding at one of the many beautiful outdoor venues in New Orleans is a truly magical and unique experience, but it’s important to feel prepared and confident every step of the way.
Remember, no question is too small when it comes to planning your big day. Be sure to ask your venue about their amenities, setup, and contingency plans to ensure your day is as special as you are!

Planning Your Perfect Outdoor Event: Budget Breakdown Tips
Planning an event in New Orleans? Discover the best outdoor event spaces, costs, and tips for hosting a memorable celebration. From venue rentals to catering and weather contingencies, get expert advice to make your event a success in the Big Easy.
Nobody knows how to party like the Big Easy. The first decision you’ll make when planning a special event is deciding where to host it. When planned during the right time of year, an outdoor event space in New Orleans is the perfect choice. From lush and magical garden settings to waterfront views, the options are endless. Whether you’re planning a birthday party, corporate event or even a baby shower, nothing beats the charm of this city's unique culture and friendly atmosphere. The best way to ensure a successful event is to plan ahead.
In this guide, we’ll break down the main costs you’ll encounter when booking an outdoor event space, including venue rental, staffing, weather contingency plans, food and bar and any other fun extras you may want to add. Understanding these factors will help you stay on budget for a memorable and stress-free event. Let’s dive into the details!
Rental Fees for Outdoor Event Space in New Orleans
When it comes to budgeting for your special event, the largest expense will most likely be the venue itself. Prices for a rental can vary widely depending on a multitude of factors such as location, number of guests, the time or year or even the day of the week. Weekends and peak seasons tend to run a bit on the pricier side, while off-season and weekdays can be a bit cheaper. We went into a little more depth on peak seasons in New Orleans, which you can check out here.
Here are some costs to consider when budgeting for your rental:
Venue Rental Fee
The venue fee itself usually covers access to the venue for a set amount of time, usually somewhere between 4-8 hours. Included in the rental fee is usually access to restrooms, chairs, tables and basic lighting. Additional amenities or more luxurious options are usually offered for a higher cost.
Staffing Costs
A fun and stress-free event will also require staff. Depending on the event or the venue this could include event coordinators, caterers/servers, security, clean up crew etc. Many private venues offer staffing for private events; some include staff in the rental fee, while others may charge an additional cost.
If you’re hosting a birthday party or a bridal shower, an event coordinator probably isn’t necessary. However, if you are hosting a large event such as a fundraiser or corporate gathering, an event coordinator could be instrumental in making sure everything runs smoothly. Typically, an event coordinator could cost anything between $500 to $2,500 depending on the scope of the event.
Additional Staffing
Depending on the size of your event, you might need to add additional security, servers or bartenders, which would of course cost extra. When it comes to events at an outdoor venue, especially ones where alcohol is served, security is usually a good idea, if not a requirement. Hiring security can cost anywhere from $25-$50 an hour, an extra bartender $20-$40 per hour, and a server could be anywhere from $10-$20 per hour.
Weather Contingency Plans
Mother nature can be unpredictable, which is something to keep in mind when booking an outdoor event space in New Orleans. From thunderstorms in the summer, to cold fronts in the winter, weather can have a significant impact on the success of your event. For that reason, it is essential to factor in the cost of a weather contingency plan.
Tent rentals are probably the most common weather contingency plan for an outdoor venue that does not have any indoor options. The options for a tent can vary in size, style, coverage, top color etc. Renting a tent for your outdoor event can cost anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000 depending on size and style. For example, opting for a clear top tent will create a more open and outdoor feel, however clear tents are usually a bit more costly than your normal white top tent.
A tent is a great contingency plan for rain, however if you are having your event in the winter months, you may also want to consider heating options, such as placing portable heaters throughout the space. This cost can range from as little as $300 to upwards of $1,000 again depending on the size of your space.
Food & Bar
Aside from the venue itself, arguably one of the most important aspects of a great event is the food and drinks. This can also be one of the largest expenses after the venue fee. Whether you’re opting for a sit-down meal, family style, buffet style or simple appetizers, food and beverage costs should be the next thing factored into your budget.
Catering Costs
Food arguably has the power to make or break an event, and when it comes to good food, New Orleans does it best. The cost to cater an event can vary just as much as the cost to rent a venue space, as it is determined by many factors such as: the amount of people, the menu, the style of service, etc. On average, you can expect to pay anywhere from $30-$100 per head. If you’re opting to save a bit of money, a simple buffet or family style would be much more affordable than plated dinners served to guests while they are seated.
Many venues have in-house caterers or a list of preferred caterers in the city. This should be another factor to discuss with venues before you make a decision.
Bar Costs
We mentioned in the previous section that bartenders will most likely be a cost factored into the venue rental. When it comes to the bar, you’ll want to decide if you’re going to go with an open bar or a cash bar. Open bars tend to be a more popular option for obvious reasons, but the costs of an open bar can add up quickly. The cost for the bar will depend on the venue and the packages they offer. Some venues offer a per-person bar package, where you pay a flat fee for each guest while other venues offer consumption-based pricing, where you pay only for what your guests drink.
If you decide on an open bar, you then will need to decide on a basic package, which typically offers beer, wine and well drinks, or you can upgrade to a premium package for options like specialty cocktails, premium liquors, craft beers, etc. The basic package usually ranges from $15-$30 per person.
Extras
We’ve covered the bare necessities for hosting an outdoor event in New Orleans, but just like anything else in life, there are extra costs to consider. Depending on the venue, most of these costs will not be included in the base fee and can add up quickly. Here are some extras to think about:
Decorations & Rentals
You will most likely need to budget in decor to bring your visions to life. This may include things like floral arrangements, lighting, balloons, etc. Rental costs for items such as linens, chairs and tables can add an additional $10-$50 per person. Check with your venue space because these may be things that are included or offered at a discount. If you’re looking to save some money on decorations, consider an outdoor event space that is already naturally beautiful, such as a garden or a waterfront space.
Entertainment
The idea of entertainment may vary depending on the event that is being hosted. For example, it is unlikely that a bridal shower needs a DJ or a dance floor, but for a birthday party that may be an essential. If you’re hosting an event in New Orleans, you may also want to take advantage of the plethora of talented musicians by booking a live band. Live bands can cost anywhere from $1,500 to $5,000 while the cost for a DJ can range from $500 - $2,500. Some venues have connections to entertainment options, so again, share your thoughts and visions when you are meeting with venues.
Parking & Transportation
Depending on the location of your venue, parking is another factor that may come into play. Some venues offer onsite parking, while others charge a fee or only offer valet service. Valet services can range from $500 - $1,500 depending on guest count, location and duration of the event.
If you’re hosting a large event with people coming from all over, or a late-night event with an open bar, you may want to consider providing shuttle services. Shuttles can range from $300 to $1,000.
Permits
Many outdoor venues, especially ones in public spaces, will require a permit to host an event. Permit costs can range from $100 to $1,000 depending on location, the type of event and the time of year. It’s important to keep in mind that permits are not only an additional cost but may take some time so make sure you are planning accordingly.
Final Thoughts
Making the decision to book an outdoor venue in New Orleans for your event can be a magical and memorable experience, but it is essential to understand the cost breakdown ahead of time. By considering factors such as venue rental, staffing, contingency plans, food and drink as well as any extras, you will be able to create a realistic budget that allows for no surprises to ensure a successful and stress-free day.

Planning an outdoor wedding is a dream for many couples- planning an outdoor wedding in New Orleans? Even better! The charm and beauty of an outdoor venue can make for an unforgettable celebration. In order to ensure things run smoothly, though, one must plan ahead. From unpredictable weather patterns to New Orleans’ bustling festival season, timing is key.
New Orleans’ culture is magical. It has its own set of traditions that make for a lively atmosphere for you and your guests. Whether you’re dreaming of a lush garden ceremony or a vibrant celebration in the heart of the city, let us be your guides. In this post we will walk you through the most essential elements to keep in mind when planning your wedding. We want your event to be as memorable as you do!
Things to Consider When Choosing an Outdoor Venue
Before you dive into the fun details of your wedding, like choosing a cake or picking your dress, the first step is to lock down a date and find the perfect venue. And remember, the team behind the venue is just as important as the space itself. So, take some time to visit potential venues and think about these key elements.
Scenery & Ambiance
Are you envisioning a lush, green, peaceful garden? A vibrant, lively backdrop with historic buildings? No matter what vibes you are seeking, New Orleans has it. Take the time to visit potential venues, get to know any staff who may be working, and see the space at night. Be confident in your desire to tangibly experience different spaces before making this big decision.
Wedding Size
Every venue has its own guest capacity, so it’s essential to know how many people you’re expecting. Having a rough guest list in mind will help you avoid any surprises when you’re choosing the right spot for your big day.
Weather Contingency Plans
Weather. We love her when she loves us. Sometimes, though, she is not always willing to cooperate. Ask the venue coordinators about contingency plans should the weather be rainy, cold or otherwise unpredictable. A great venue will have options to accommodate you, no matter what the sky has in store.
Amenities & Services
Outdoor venues often have a different set of services compared to indoor venues. Check whether they have in-house caterers, florists, decorations, music, etc. or if they allow local vendors for all of these items. Ask about any extras you might love. Such as a bridal suite on-site or a petting zoo for a wildly fun and unique experience!
Location & Accessibility
How important is location to you? Luckily, New Orleans is a compact city, so getting around is pretty simple. Still, it’s always a good idea to make sure your venue is easy to reach for you and your guests. Think about neighborhood preferences, distance to accommodations, parking options, and ADA accessibility.
Permits & Restrictions
Depending on the venue you choose, there may be permits you’ll need to secure, especially if you plan to bring alcohol or set up special elements. Double-check things like noise limits or parking restrictions so you’re not caught off guard by last-minute rules.
When it Comes to Outdoor Weddings in New Orleans, Timing is Everything
It’s always the right time to plan a visit to New Orleans, but it’s not always the right time for an outdoor wedding. If you’re having an outdoor wedding in New Orleans, there are a few factors you should consider.
Choosing the Right Time for an Outdoor Wedding
It’s no secret that it’s hot in the summer, definitely too hot for an outdoor wedding. With an average high of 92 degrees, you can say goodbye to lush, green landscape and cooperative hairstyles. June 1st also marks the start of hurricane season, and while you can easily have a backup plan for rain, there’s nothing you can do for a hurricane so it’s probably best to avoid those first few months of summer altogether.
Navigating New Orlean’s Festival Season
If you know anything about New Orleans, you probably know the city loves a good party. While February to May is the peak season for tourism in the city, there are festivals scheduled all throughout the year. While these peak seasons aren’t necessarily a time you should avoid, it’s important to keep in mind the high demand could affect your options for venues, music, hotels, etc. If you decide to have your wedding during peak season, give yourself ample time to plan (at least a year and a half in advance).
Everybody loves New Orleans. It is often a favorite spot to host large events that bring people in from all over the world. As you are choosing a date for your wedding, spend a few minutes looking into any events that may be happening on your chosen weekend.
Major Events & Festivals to Consider
Mardi Gras (January to late February/ early March)
Jazz & Heritage Fest (March/April)
French Quarter Fest (Midway through April)
New Orleans Pride (June)
Essence Fest (Fourth of July Weekend)
Southern Decadence (late August/ early September)
Halloween Weekend
Bayou Classic (November)
All State Sugar Bowl (New Years)
Check out the New Orleans website to learn more about each event.
Getting the Most Out of Your New Orleans Experience
New Orleans is a city rich with culture and traditions, known for welcoming its visitors with open arms. Take advantage of the unique culture of New Orleans by adopting some of the customs and traditions.
Second Line → Probably one of the most iconic and well-known traditions of the city, a Second Line features the Bridge & Groom, followed by a Brass Brand and the rest of the wedding party. An African American tradition that originated as part of a jazz funeral, celebrating the life of the deceased. Eventually the tradition transferred over to weddings and is now a beloved New Orleans tradition. Following the ceremony, a Second Line celebrates the new beginning for you and your partner, symbolizing happiness and good fortune.
Wedding Cake Pull → A Wedding Cake Pull is a great tradition to incorporate to celebrate guests outside of the official wedding party. The Wedding Cake has 6 to 12 ribbons with different charms chosen by the bride for thanks and well wishing. Those 6 to 12 women are called up and pull the ribbon of their choice. Reach out to a local jewelry store for your cake charms.

Did you know that Americans generate over 290 million tons of waste each year? As time goes on the effects of global warming are slowly becoming harder and harder to ignore. While we can't undo the damage already done to our planet, we can all take small steps to help slow the impact and protect the environment for future generations. One effective way to reduce your personal carbon footprint is by embracing sustainability, especially when planning events. At Paradigm, we believe that every little effort, no matter how small, counts in making a positive difference for our planet. As a garden venue in New Orleans, we are committed to doing our part to reduce waste and promote eco-friendly practices. In this article, we’ll share the steps we take to ensure that our space is as sustainable as possible, so you can host your next event with peace of mind knowing it aligns with your eco-conscious values.
When it Comes to a Garden Venue, the Landscape is the Decor
Americans spend over $2 billion every year on single-use decorations, most of which end up in landfills after a single event. This contributes to waste and leaves a lasting impact on our environment. At Paradigm, we aim to change the narrative by designing our space with sustainability at its core. Instead of relying on single-use decorations, we’ve intentionally crafted our garden venue in New Orleans to be the perfect backdrop for any event—naturally beautiful and eco-friendly.
Every corner of our garden offers its own unique touch of charm. Our wood-fired oven, made from reclaimed bricks, serves not only as a main focal point, but a functional feature for incredible food. The pond, a meaningful creation of our Montessori program during COVID, adds a peaceful, reflective atmosphere to the space, including the soothing sound of flowing water. The green roof over our credenza offers a unique and inviting decor element, with lively pops of color. These features not only enhance the natural beauty of the garden but also minimize the need for artificial decorations, which is good for our planet and your wallet!
To further highlight the garden's natural beauty, we use strategic lighting to provide a soft and soothing ambiance. Floral arrangements made from flowers harvested directly from our garden are another sustainable touch, offering guests a connection to the space itself. We believe in supporting local whenever possible, so all throughout the inside and outside of the garden you will find murals painted by talented New Orleans artists.
By using the landscape itself as the decor, we not only reduce waste but also create an atmosphere that feels authentic, personal, and deeply connected to nature. Hosting your event at Paradigm Gardens means embracing sustainability without compromising on beauty or style.

Quality Over Quantity
While single-use plastic items seem convenient, they come at a cost to both our health and to the environment. At Paradigm, we’re committed to reducing waste and protecting our planet, which is why we avoid single-use items like paper napkins, plastic straws, and disposable cutlery. Instead, we opt for more sustainable alternatives that not only help reduce our carbon footprint but also elevate the guest experience.
We use high-quality silverware, glass dishes and cloth napkins to ensure that your event has an elegant feel while remaining friendly to our Earth. Our signature souvenir glass jars have become a fan favorite—guests love taking home a practical memento from their time at our garden venue in New Orleans. These jars can be reused in countless ways, our personal favorites are a flower vase or iced coffee jar, making it a sustainable favor to be enjoyed time and time again.
